Sustainable Products for Housing

Sustainable Products:

The following items can be used in the new build or renovation projects:

  • Solar Energy

Solar Electricity: It is the generation of electricity from the power of the sun, via  photovoltaic cells (PV).

Solar Heating: Solar energy can be used to heat a fluid such as water in solar collector panels.  The water is heated, and then the hot water is pumped to a heat exchanger that extracts the heat for use within the house

Solar hot water: where water passes through panels to be heated directly and no  electricity is generated for use in the kitchen or bathroom.

Biomass

Biomass and wood pallet boilers burning pellets, logs or chips connected to a central heating and hot water system.

Cast-iron hot plate oven

Another choice for using renewable energy is standalone Cast-iron hot plate oven, which powers radiators, as well as delivering abundant amounts of domestic hot water by burning wood pallet or logs.

Use of Insulation

There are varieties of insulations available which are either made from renewable or natural materials that can be used in the construction of a house, from cavity to loft insulation, all to help you to keep to Eco friendly materials.  The following items show only a few types of insulations: Recycled plastic bottles; unlike traditional insulation provides heat saving quality for homes as a loft Insulation.  The insulation creates a warmer home and a cleaner environment.

Use of Natural Insulation Products such as:

Use of newspaper: Manufactured from finely shredded recycled newspapers.  New research from BREEAM confirms that recycled newspaper has a better than zero carbon impact.

Use of wool as natural insulations

Low embodied energy, good thermal and acoustic performance and other natural insulation.

It should be noted that most of the above insulations are competitively priced.

In general; around a third of all the heat lost in an un-insulated home is

through the walls!!

Rain Water Harvesting

Rain harvesting is a very simple concept; you collect rainwater from your roof area, filter it, store it and use it for all non-consumable applications such as washing laundry, cleaning, car washing, garden irrigation, flushing toilets.  By choosing this system you save money. Up to 50% of mains water used could be saved and you have stopped wasting water saving on water bills.

Green Roof

Green roof is formed from a non-water absorbent membrane that allows the forming of vegetation such as turf.  This usually is an ultra lightweight green roof that can be installed as an addition on the majority of existing structures, and can also be part of the design for a rooftop garden in a new build project.
